Shop Magazine

I had the pleasure of working with Studio 8 on a cover for Shop Magazine a few weeks ago. Each magazine is themed to a specific city or country and at first I was commisioned to work on the Rome edition. I was asked to re-interperate the Vercase logo and play on the over the top bright colours, full on patterns, leapord skin prints etc. I did a bit of research and found out that the logo is based on the Medusa Rondanini statue which is a more humanized and beautiful version of the always grotesque head of Medusa. I also added the main symbol of Rome - the Wolfmother with Romulus and Remus. However due to complicated copywright issues this cover unfortunately fell through the gaps.

They then commisioned me to work on their Austria cover. The illustration was based around the jewelry design of AND_i, the company owned by Andreas Eberharter. Specialising in eye patches worn by the likes of Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Milla Jovovich they explore tribal and shamanistic elements and mysticism. I tried to come up with something a little more bold and iconic and therefore went for the simple overlaying of one eye patch three times over. The third illustration down is the one that made the cut.
