COVER FOR THE WALL STREET JOURNAL.

by jimmy turrell on Thursday, 11 July 2013

I did this for last weekend's cover of the Wall Street Journal supplement 'Off Duty'.

This particular issue was all about music, and the cover story was a piece on the future of the industry. With the landscape changing so much over the last 10 years, they talked to people working in various aspects of the industry to get their thoughts on where things are headed in the next 10 years.

It was great to collage and illustrate people who I really respect within the music industry - everybody from The Rolling Stones producer Andrew Loog Oldham, musician Robert Glasper and house DJ/producer Jamie Jones and his Hot Creations label.

NEW ARTWORK FOR PEDESTRIAN AND 2ND DROP RECORDS

by jimmy turrell on Wednesday, 10 July 2013

I've just created this artwork for Pedestrian and the rest of the guys at 2nd Drop Records. 2nd Drop have released tracks from Ramadaman, Rusko, LV and South London Ordinance.

The track is a Fela inspired slice of Afrobeat which mixes modern rhythms and sub base to produce something pretty unique. Heard it on Gilles Peterson's show last week and its also getting support from Dark Sky, Djrum and LV.

I wanted to give the artwork a slightly dark, sinister feel with an analog, hand-made aesthetic while still keeping the contemporary tone that runs through the music.Underneath the top (chosen) image are a few other options I gave to the label. Released on July 26th you can pre-order it from the label's website: http://www.surus.co.uk/2nd-drop-records/kalakuta-ndizi-22185.aspx
