Also in here is a few pages from my sketchbook.

Check back next week for lots more work in progress and sketchbook work.

GUARDIAN WEEKEND MAGAZINE - DRUGS ILLUSTRATION

by jimmy turrell on Saturday, 27 April 2013

Heres a new illustration I've just completed for todays Guardian magazine about legal highs and the web revolution that’s changing how the world gets high.Basically they wanted something with a tripped out feel but without it being too Haight-Ashbury - basiclly modern psychdelia.

ALBUM ARTWORK FOR JOHN TURRELL - THE KINGMAKER

by jimmy turrell on Friday, 8 March 2013

Heres the new album artwork I've created for my younger brother's upcoming debut solo album The Kingmaker. It's released on Big Chill Records in April and quite frankly a it's belter (discount the obvious nepotism please! )
It basically explores the blues and soul roots of John's voice and lyrically I think its his best work yet. In terms of an aesthetic I wanted create something that was both ambiguous, abstact and yet soulful at the same time.

BLOOMBERG BUSINESSWEEK & SELF MAGAZINE

by jimmy turrell on Monday, 28 January 2013

Heres a few illustrations I've done for my weekly column in Bloomberg Businessweek. The Hard Choices section interviews business leaders (and sometimes artists and directors like Francis Ford Coppola and Michael Apted) and asks them what the hardest choice they've had to make in their career has been.

Also here is a couple of illo's for Self Magazine (also an NYC publication) on the negative effects of the ADHD drug Adderall.

THE NEW YORKER, THE GUARDIAN GUIDE, BILLBOARD AND OTHER UNSEEN WORK

by jimmy turrell on Friday, 25 January 2013

A lot of the time (I guess just like in any creative proffession) you create work that either doesnt make the final cut or (for what ever reason) doesnt get shown to the wider public. Here's a few different versions of The Guardian Guide cover I did a couple of week's ago (the 3rd one down was the one that was chosen). Also here is a few New Yorker illustrations, a Billboard magazine cover and a double page spread which were all work in progress. In these cases I actually preferered them to the final pieces.

NEW SCIENTIST COVER

by jimmy turrell on Tuesday, 18 December 2012

As I mentioned a couple of days ago I've just completed this weeks New Scientist cover. Basically the idea was to represent a feature about the ‘second brain’ in your intestine/gut without it being all gross with images of guts and brains etc

The feature briefly mentions butterflies in your stomach so I went for a simple approach - I took a few shots a friend of mine and then dropped butterflys over as a representation of communication between the head and the stomach.

THE NEW YORK TIMES, ESTERSON ASSOCIATES AND A PROMISE

by jimmy turrell on Wednesday, 12 December 2012

I'll admit it straight off the bat - I've been a bit flakey on the old blog front over the last few months. I've just been ridiculously busy lately and I've basically taken my eye off the ball a bit when it comes to updating stuff here.

Anyway I'm gonna post up everything I've been up to within the next week including new work for Wallpaper Magazine, work for the V&A and the cover for this weeks New Scientist. I've also just done a big commission for Fiat which unfortunately I've got to wait until the launch to show. Should be it hitting billboards across Europe early next year.

In the meantime heres an illustration of the rapper K'Naan I've just completed for The New York Times
and a piece I've just worked on for Esterson Associates on cyber crime and hacking. Both pretty different stylistically but hopefully a similar spirit runs throughout.

Check back tomorrow for more work and a special Xmas giveaway. Updates every week now - New Years Resolution - promise!
